Bucrane Design Build, llc. was founded in October 2015 by the brother-sister team of Christopher Drown and Lauran Drown. Bucrane provides architecture and construction-related services for residential, light commercial and other cool small projects in the San Antonio region and beyond.
Chris provided the initial inspiration and helped cofound Bucrane with the dream of developing spec homes with his big sis. While attending college in Ohio, Chris worked part time for a custom home builder, assisting the trades in all phases of construction. Since returning from a 2012 deployment to Afghanistan, Chris has worked as construction project manager for two established custom builders in San Antonio. Chris’s entrepreneurial passions have also led him and his wife, Jas, to develop an online Amazon business, El Gato Malo. He supports Bucrane with advice on building and estimating.
Lauran is a licensed architect, independent scholar & environmental designer who has lived & worked in diverse communities across three countries & three US states. She is also a PMI-certified Project Management Professional. She holds a Master of Architecture from McGill University and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. In autumn 2015, Lauran relocated to Texas to be warmer and closer to family. Outside of Bucrane, she has been a site leader for Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, an adjunct instructor at the Art Institute of San Antonio and is engaged in ongoing research on earthen construction, one of her passions. In 2016, she helped cofound the Earthen Construction Initiative, a Texas-based 501c3 that serves to advance and promote the use of earthen materials in building.
